thingloop going bye bye...

thingloop is shutting down...  : (
It's with great regret we announce that as of August 31 2011 thingloop will no longer be available.

We'd like to apologise to our users for any inconvenience caused by this loss of service, and to all our early adopters who persevered despite some of the rough edges!

Maybe you're wondering why we are shutting thingloop down?
We've had some great successes and high points, but at the end of the day thingloop has failed to gain critical mass and as a consequence has not proved financially viable. In short, it doesn't pay for itself. This has left the team tied up in their day jobs and unable to provide the support a site like thingloop needs.

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has joined us in the adventure that has been thingloop; it's been a rollercoaster, and this time it hasn't ended on a high.

What will we take away from it?
  • encouragement from peoples desire to share with, cooperate with and help others
  • some fantastic stories
  • and lots of lessons learnt; we'll definitely do things differently next time!
We hope you've taken something positive away as well. Thanks for coming along on the journey with us.

So what do you expect me to do now?
Some of you will no doubt be keen to continue sharing your resources with others, and we'd encourage you to explore some of the following sites if you haven't already: Streetbank, Ecomodo, Neighborgoods, Share Some Sugar.

Final fairwell
On behalf of the thingloop team, thank you for helping us in trying to create something new and different, and for sharing. It's been emotional!

In the words of Theodor Seuss Geisel...
Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened.
Thank you again, Owen (thingloop founder)

Tweet this!

Hey, we've just added Twitter integration to thingloop. You can turn it on from your Profile using the checkboxes at the bottom, shown above.

thingloop will update your status periodically to let your friends know when you're adding items, etc. Let us know how you get on with it. Note, you can also use it when you are 'shouting out' and asking people if they can lend you stuff. Maybe one of your followers has the thing you need?
